Notes from the arranger
This must be one of the most famous, and best-loved, carols ever, although the story of how it came to be written at the last minute on Christmas Eve 1818 in a tiny Austrian Alpine village—and then made its way around the world—makes for fascinating reading. The melody itself is very easy (I taught it to two girls recently who had never played a harp before); the countermelody is almost as easy, though the two Harmony parts (particularly Harmony 1) require a little more skill. Still a lovely one for relatively inexperienced players to give and get a lot of pleasure.
