Notes from the arranger
“Away in a Manger” is so sublimely pure and gentle that any ensemble arrangement shouldn’t be complicated—and this one isn’t, so it’s ideal for relatively inexperienced harpists (although more advanced players shouldn’t turn their noses up at it!). I have added a descant of my own in the third verse which gives it another layer of poignancy. It’s intended for a 4-part ensemble ideally, but it’s possible to play with only three players (or even two, though this would lose the descant, which I think would be shame, even if I say so myself…). By the way, the Harp 1 part is the melody only, so never assume that “No.1” means the most experienced…

This is simple and lovely, perfect for a Christmas lullaby! You will not regret buying this enchanting piece! A nice addition is to try playing the descant (part 3) in harmonics.
