Notes from the composer
This beautiful piece can be performed as part of a Christmas nativity play, sung by Mother Mary to Baby Jesus in his crib. It is a gentle song for a solo harp, singer, and choir.
Suggestions for staging
Setting – Mother Mary is in the front with Baby Jesus. Children are gathered around them, forming a choir that softly hums the melody in the background. The harp part can be played on either lever or pedal harp, either by Mother Mary or by an accompanist sitting close by. If Mary plays the harp, she can direct her focus to Baby Jesus while she plays and sings. If she does not play the harp, she can place Baby Jesus on her lap.
Performance – Repeat all the music by the choir alone humming it all from beginning to end. To finish, play and sing from the lead-in quarter note on bar 27 through to the end.
A heart-filled and expressive piece for all mothers of our world to play and sing to their baby, this piece can also be performed in any recital setting.
