Arranger’s Notes
This Easter song, originally published in 1895, has a D minor part and a D major part. The D minor part describes pilgrims thronging, while the night is falling, to watch on Calvary. The D major part describes the words of comfort they hear “Rest, rest to the weary, Peace, peace to the soul.” The D major part is written in 6/4 time and the 4th harp part needs to count the eighth notes very carefully. This can be a very beautiful and memorable piece.
