Arranger’s Notes
This slip jig is one of the compositions or uilleann piper Patrick Davey from Belfast. It was composed in August 1995 on the occasion of the All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil in Listowel, County Kerry. Patrick decided it was too far to travel from Belfast to Kerry by bus, so he caught an aeroplane instead – hence the title! This tune is unusual for a slip jig in that each part is repeated.
I have marked in some fingering tips which you might find useful. I find that sliding the thumb as marked at the end of the 2nd and 3rd parts really improves the flow. In this tune, the symbol ~ denotes a treble, which should replace the quarter and eighth note marked (see bars 2, 3 and 4, where the ornament is written out).
